Description and Itinerary: The tour starts from your accommodation in Belgrade and takes you to some of the most important landmarks in central Serbia’s Šumadija region. It includes 3 major stops at Avala Mountain, the Royal Complex of Oplenac and the Risovaca Cave followed by a sightseeing car ride through picturesque scenery.

Avala is a small mountain located only 16 km southeast of Belgrade, known for its diverse flora and fauna, today one of the Belgraders favorite picnic destinations. Surrounded by pine trees on the top of the mountain stands the Monument to the Unknown Hero, the work of the famous sculptor Ivan Meštrović, dedicated to the Unknown Serbian soldier from the First World War. The tallest building on the Balkan Peninsula, the Avala Tower provides spectacular view of Serbia’s capital as well as the surrounding landscapes.

The Royal Complex of Oplenac located on a hill above the city of Topola belongs to the Serbian Karađorđević dynasty, founded by Karađorđe – Black George leader of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire. Among others, complex key features are exceptional Saint George’s Mausoleum Church, Karađorđe’s Fort now a museum and the Royal wine cellar. Topola and Oplenac blessed with suitable, moderate continental climate, regular temperature fluctuation and specific terrain configuration have always been known as a quality vine-growing and wine-producing region. Wine tasting in an authentic wine cellar is optionally organized.

The Risovača Cave is situated at the very entrance of the town of Aranđelovac in central Serbia above the Kubršnica Valley. Being one of only five caves in the Balkan Peninsula that had been inhabited by the Neanderthals it represents one of the most important archaeological sites of the Paleolithic period in Serbia. Frequently referred to as “the Museum of Paleolithic culture”, this cave tells a story of early men and reveals their hidden secrets. It fascinates visitors with fossil remains of animals that walked the Earth during the last Ice age around 36,000 years ago. Risovača Cave is the archaeological site of great importance and a monument of nature.

Duration: 7-8 hours, tour starts at 9/10 am, or upon request.
