Schaffhausen is a family-friendly site in a very pleasant setting on the banks of the Rhine, with plenty of shade from a variety of tall trees. It is level and grassy, the first half being open lawns and the rest of the touring area wooded, with numbered pitches (mostly small – up to 70 sq.m) and 3-4A electricity. There are many day visitors in summer as the site, which incorporates a public park, is ideally placed for swimming, canoeing and diving in the Rhine. Whilst here, you would not want to miss the impressive waterfalls at Schaffhausen, 150 m. wide and 25 m. high.

Families can launch their own canoes or inflatables direct onto the Rhein, whilst the little ones can enjoy the two shallow paddling pools. Parents can watch from the café/bar terrace or relax on the well tended lawns. There is a communal barbecue and a campfire pit for teenagers to chill. From the site entrance a path along the river bank will suit walkers and cyclists, and nearby is the jetty for river cruises. A visit to the old town of Schaffhausen is a must, especially to the Hohenklingen Castle.

Facilities at Camping Schaffhausen

For touring units there is one, fairly old, but clean toilet block which might be under pressure at the busiest times. Laundry facilities plus further toilets are at the reception block. Bar/snack bar with covered terrace provides a limited menu for meals to eat in or take away (open daily). Bread to order, some essentials kept. Covered guest room with TV, microwave, tables and chairs. Two shallow paddling pools, with play area close by. Bicycle hire. Dogs are not accepted at any time. Free WiFi throughout.

Directions to Camping Schaffhausen

From Schaffhausen head east towards Kreuzlingen (road no. 13) for 2.5 km. Site is signed just before Langwiesen. If coming from the east, it is a tight turn into the site.
