Staff Pick Notes

Sauvignon blanc, I must confess, has never found a place in my heart. The grassy, grapefruit notes don't often sit well with me so I often just avoid it all together. This bottle, however, is proof of one of the wine world's lessons in that delight and surprise are always a possibility when you continue to try new things. A life lesson too. The Sattler family has been making wine in the village of Gamlitz since the 1880s. Today the winery is run by two brothers Willi and Hannes who farm organically and allow nature to do most of the talking. Their Sauvignon Blanc spends 5 months on the lees and is the most un sauvignon blanc like wine I've come across. Not a grassy note in sight. The wine is fresh and bright, medium weight with citrus and herbal notes with a slight saline quality. It may make a savvy b lover out of me yet.

Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...

Blauer Zweigelt), which yields full-bodied wines, deep in color and featuring bold flavors of...
