The Honda Civic Type R is a nameplate that has become synonymous with performance, agility, and driving purity. Evolving from the humble Civic, Honda’s most popular compact car, the Type R version has garnered a cult-like following of enthusiasts around the world. It’s become one of the most extensively dyno tested vehicles we’ve developed here at Bluespark, so we always know how well they respond to our boxes.

Delving into the engine bay of the FK8, we know it boasts the 2.0L VTEC turbocharged engine, with power quoted at 320hp and 400Nm of torque. Thanks to its adaptive damper system and limited-slip differential, the FK8 manages to strike a perfect balance between daily usability and track-day prowess. Whether it's tight corners or open stretches of tarmac, the Type R shines through with its nimble handling and explosive acceleration.

These awesome hot-hatches are always great to work with and it’s always amazing to see them transform after a bit of tweaking. In this latest tuning and dyno testing, the customer still has full manufactures warranty, so we take this VTEC Type R FK8 GT, install our 3 Channel Pro Petrol chip tuning box and load the rollers to see what results it can make.

If you take a look at the dyno graph from this stock run below, you'll see torque figures running slightly higher at 416Nm, rather than the 400Nm which Honda claim. It's not particularly unusual to see strong stock figures here, as they will usually push beyond what Honda claim. Power figures sitting fairly spot on, coming in at 323hp on the stock runs, so good see some consistency from their claims here.

Now let’s see what we can achieve with our box…

Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque, really transforming how the Type R feels to drive, and now pushing some really decent numbers!

Peak power had a respectable increase, as we were able to lift it from 323hp at stock, up to 375hp with the box. If you take a look at the dyno graph below, you can really see those changes to the curve (dotted red and blue lines). We see those gains start to appear right down in those lower revs, and continue to hold consistency right the way through the rev range. You can also see where the stock curve takes a dip around 4200rpm, and how we iron that out, as it now holds the power right throughout.

Torque figures were also greatly improved. At stock the engine produced 416Nm, and now 460Nm with the box. Taking another look at the dyno graph (solid lines), its again a similar story with that consistency. Not only have we increased figures by +44Nm, but taking a look at those inconsistencies of the stock run, you can really see how we iron that out, giving access to all the available torque throughout the entire rev range.
