This is a great castle near Kaiserslautern Germany and an easy drive to get there. It’s easy parking and only a few minute hike up the footway to get to Grafenstein Castle. The ruins are easily accessible and you can go up the stairs to the very top turret.
Getting to Grafenstein!
Driving there from K-town is really easy and it’s mostly a two-lane highway the majority of the way. There is also a dedicated parking lot at the bottom of the hill to the castle. There isn’t much in the parking area so expect just a dirt lot.
Gräfenstein Castle
The footpath from the parking area is only about a 5-minute dirt path. It is easy to moderate with the main issues being grade and loose gravel and dirt on the way up. The castle also has many stone blocks, steep steps, and other small foot obstructions. It is also the starting point for many other hiking and biking trails around the area. There are tons things more to explore if you have more time!
The views at Burg Grafenstein
Make sure to go to the top of the tower to see the entirety of the forest around the castle. There are tons of hiking trails all around this area for biking and walking.
Food and Bathrooms
There are no services at the castle or parking lot. The nearest town to the parking area is Merzalben. There is a small bakery in the town and a few hotels if you’re wanting to get something quick or stay near. The nearest larger city is Pirmasens and this small city will have all the amenities you’d need.
