| Description |
Deutsch: Ostansicht der röm.-kath. Pfarrkirche hl. Jakobus der Ältere in der niederösterreichischen Stadtgemeinde Purkersdorf.
Eine im Kern gotische barockisierte Saalkirche mit eingezogenem Dreiseitenchor und hohem Turm im südlichen Chorwinkel. Die vorhandene Kapelle (heutiger Chor) wird bei der Ersten Wiener Türkenbelagerung schwer beschädigt und später wird diese zu einer Kirche um- und ausgebaut. Nach der Zerstörung bei der Zweiten Wiener Türkenbelagerung erfolgt die Wiederinstandsetzung im barocken Stil. 1726 wurde nordseitig eine Sakristei und eine Taufkapelle (heute Wochentagskapelle) angebaut. Eine weitere Erweiterung fand 1935/36 statt, indem nach Plänen von Karl Holey südseitig ein niedriges Seitenschiff angebaut wurde und man das Langhaus Richtung Westen verlängerte, das mit einem halbrunden Eingangsbereich abschließt. |
