The Biedermeier Era is sometimes referred to as the Romantic era

The Biedermeier style, which originated in Germany and Austria, flourished in the prosperous middle-class homes of Europe from about 1815 to 1848.

The Biedermeier style is characterized by classical simplicity. Chairs had curved legs, and sofas had rolled arms and generous upholstery. Biedermeier art and style had a comforting appeal to them, largely as a way to reassure the middle class that their wealth and newfound role in urban society was secure.

The Biedermeier era is also sometimes referred to the Romantic era. ….especially the fashion of the ladies. It was volume, floral and lace in sophisticated colors. The dresses were lively with tons of fabrics, wrinkles and folds. After years of a waistline beneath the chest (Empire fashion), the waistline was back to normal and heavily defined once again. To emphasize a small waistline, the skirts were big and heavy. The length of the dresses varied from floor-length to calf-length.
