Franking Machine, Frankopost Simplex

About this object

This is a Universal Postal Frankers Ltd Frankopost Simplex Franking Machine from the 1950s. The production number is 7627. Franking machines were once common in offices. Franking machines were a sort of prepaid stamping system. All the outgoing mail would be put through one and then the postage costs were based on the meter readings which were based on the weight of the envelope or parcel.

We are not entirely sure which business this machine was used in, however, it was donated to our collection by Tony Pink of Wyndham.
