Wine-growing community in the Carnuntum wine-growing region (Lower Austria) on the border with northern Burgenland. To the north-west is Petronell-Carnuntum with its world-famous excavations from Roman times. The sunny southern slopes of the Spitzerberg south of Hainburg form a small red wine island. The vineyards cover 115 hectares of vines at an altitude of 146 to 299 metres above sea level, with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt, as well as the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling and Pinot Blanc.
The vineyards are Blauenstein, Frauenberg, Goldberg, Holzweingarten, Kranzen, Neuried, Pannwald, Raubwald, Roterd (Obere, Untere), Satzen, Spitzen (Obere, Untere), Spitzerberg, Tödler Äcker and Viertel. The cellars in the form of grassy mounds are a novelty. They were not dug into the ground, but covered with earth. One cellar alley is the "Holzweg". There is a 1.5 km long educational wine trail with a grape variety garden. Well-known wineries include Josef Dietrich, the Gratzer-Sandriester family, Peter Mitterer, Anton Sandriester and Walter Widler.
