About Lilac Tradescantia
This cultivar of Tradescantia fluminensis is an exceptionally easy plant to care for and might surprise you with some of their delightful white blossoms. They are extremely easy to propagate by stem and one plant can give rise to dozens of new ones, which makes them great for sharing. 🤝 As houseplants they often trail, but will also creep along the ground if grown outdoors. Their succulent leaves make them sensitive to frost, so be sure to bring them indoors if your winter temperatures dip below freezing. ❄️

Finding light for Lilac Tradescantia in your home
Lilac Tradescantia may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Lilac Tradescantia in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Lilac Tradescantia
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Lilac Tradescantia after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Is the Lilac Tradescantia the same as the Nanouk Tradescantia?

Leaf discoloration and dying I just pruned my plant and the leaves were getting very brown. I don’t know what to do. I’d say I have been watering it about 7-12 days apart based on the soil’s moisture. Should I move it closer to my window? But if I do that then I am afraid the cold weather will affect it.

my tradescantia nanok was beginning to look brown and sad, so I decided to cut her back and propagate before I repot in the spring! 🥹 big haircut was done she looks so much better! #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #HappyPlants #TradescantiaNanouk

Would you add, or create new? I took clippings to root, and now that they are ready for soil, I can't decide if I do as originally planned and make Steve fuller, or just start a new plant? #plantaddict #happyplants #planttherapy #hangingplants

browning leaves and breakage My Tradescantia is now having brown, crispy leaves. I’ve also notice it becoming more brittle, parts falling off when I touch. I moved it into a larger pot about a month and a half ago so I’m not sure if that’s the problem. I’ve kept up with the watering schedule. Should I start spraying some miracle grow? I’m not quite sure what to do #LilacTradescantia #helpneeded

Crispy brown patches on the leaves of my plant. It hangs behind a sheer white curtain in a south facing window. #TradescantiaNanouk

🤞🏼Here’s to hoping!🥺 I’ve been trying to figure out what was making this guy droopy and dry leaves at the base. I’ve checked the roots, given him new succulent soil mix. I’ve changed lighting -too much/too little. I happened across a YouTube video about house plants to never have and decided to watch it. In this video it listed this plant and ran down a list of things that can happen, every one of them I’ve been seeing with this guy. Then it went on to say when this happens trim it shorter. (I don’t remember all of the ‘why’) Nothing else has seemed to perk him up, so here’s to hoping. 🤞🏼 I trimmed a good 6”+ (12” in some spots) off all around and will be propping all of that together. Then had to find him a new home because I filled his previous spot. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #GregGang #BeforeAndAfter #PlantLove
