About Tradescantia Zebrina
Tradescantia zebrina is an exceptionally easy plant to care for and rewards growers with delightful white and purple blossoms. Their leaves have characteristic stripes, which is where they get the name Zebrina! They are extremely easy to propagate by stem and one plant can give rise to dozens of new ones, which makes them great for sharing. 🤝 As houseplants they often trail, but will also creep along the ground if grown outdoors. Their succulent leaves make them sensitive to frost, so be sure to bring them indoors if your winter temperatures dip below freezing. ❄️

How to fertilize Tradescantia Zebrina
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Tradescantia Zebrina after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

My inch plant baby “Haze” is growing but losing its purple color…. What am I doing wrong? Also mine stand up like they are stretching for sun vs flowy/trailing like I’ve seen others. #Zebrina

What is this… So I had the purple plant for a minute now. There were new shoots coming from it. Turns out it’s not the same plant. Is this some type of arrowhead plant. And how did it even get there.

It has never grown leaves all down its vines, only at the bottom. I have tons of leafless vine and then just a few on the bottom. How do I make it leaf more fully? #Zebrina

Zebrina Propagation I'm 100% sure I have him propagated correctly. Yet he's browning. Distilled water in the tube. Any tips? #Zebrina #PropagationStation #Propagation #TradescantiaZebrina

How to take cuttings without mother plant dying off? Recently I received a cutting of a wandering dude. I started off only having one cutting, but I decided to chop it in half and make it into two. The cutting with the growth point is doing great, while the other one shriveled up at the tip and is slowly pushing out growth from a lower node. I would like to cut the one that is thriving into smaller pieces so I have a more full and lush looking plant once they are ready for a bigger pot, but I’m afraid that if I do I’ll end up with another one like the first. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #PlantCorner #PlantShelfie #ChopAndProp #WanderingDude #Soil #help

Does this guy fit? Hi all 🌱 I have these two pots with cuttings of trandescantia zebrina, that are doing great. I also have one more cutting in water that just got a decent root and seems ready to be planted in soil. Does any one here have experience with this type of propagation for transdescantia and knows if I can fit it in any of the two pots with plants already growing? #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation

Tradescantia brown spots Any thoughts as to what could be causing these brown spots on my tradescantia nanouk? I have two doing the same thing. They started their lives as hanging plants outdoors, and developed these spots by the end of the season. I figured pests, stress, spotty watering, and the end of season were likely contributing factors. I brought them inside to overwinter, and I’ve noticed that the new growth is doing the same thing now. I only water them in the center, so there’s no water sitting on the leaves. The room never gets near freezing. I’ve been checking the soil, and while it’s pretty darn dry by the time I water, it’s not bone dry. Still feels soft on my fingers and a skewer doesn’t feel rough entering the soil. If it was too dry, I’d expect crispy edges, but some of these brown spots start in the center of the leaves. #brownspots #TradescantiaNanouk #Tradescantia

What other plant parents say
I actually hate this plant but it feels rude to give it 5 stars just because it doesn’t spark joy. I’ll probably put it outside soon and just let it vibe out there so I don’t have to look at it anymore. Basically idiot proof though - I’ve been actively trying to kill it for months and it’s still hanging on.
