It would not be wrong to say that there is probably a record for almost everything out there. So, how can there not be one for the longest beard? Well, the good news is that there indeed is, and Sarwan Singh — for the third time in a row — has made it to the Guinness World Records book for his long beard that measures over eight feet 25 inches or 2.495 m, earning the title for the longest beard on a living person (male).
In 2008, the Indian-Canadian’s beard measured 2.33 m (7 ft 8 in), and when it was re-measured on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Rome in 2010, it was 7 ft 9 in (2.362 m), noted Guinness site. The record requires the holder to keep his natural hair which is “measured wet so the curls do not affect the length of the measurement”.
Interestingly, Singh, a practising Sikh, has never trimmed his beard. “It’s seen as one of the most important aspects of being a Sikh,” he told the Guinness site, adding that it is “something that was given as a gift from God. It’s not a personal achievement.”
Here’s what his routine entails
Singh engages in a lengthy grooming routine that begins with untying his beard and entering the tub such that he can soak it completely. He then uses a shampoo and a conditioner for each strand of hair. Once done, it takes additional 10 minutes to dry his record-lengthy beard. Once done, he combs oil and gel through his beard, making sure it is applied evenly throughout, mentioned the site.
While many may feel it is a task to keep such a long beard, according to Guinness site, Singh desires to keep his beard even longer.
Singh said he loves his beard and has never had any difficulties with its upkeep. In fact, he has always been able to overcome any challenges that are presented with having a long beard and often wishes it were even longer, noted the site.
