(KNSI) — Widespread rainfall is expected to make its way across Minnesota starting Thursday.

The National Weather Service says rain will begin developing across the southern part of the state Thursday, then lift north to “engulf the whole area” by Thursday night and Friday. Around St. Cloud, rain chances pick up about 6:00 p.m. Thursday and increase through the night to 95% during the day Friday. The rain tapers off the later it gets on Saturday.

Forecasters say the area can expect between one to three inches of rain by the time all is said and done.

The rainfall is welcome news for those in drought stricken areas. A vein of extreme drought runs through central Minnesota, starting in Morrison County through Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright Counties.
