Niederdorf (Zurich) - by Moti Lapid on Google
Description
Niederdorf can be loosely defined as the north-eastern part of Zurich's medieval town north of Grossmünster and east of Rathaus and Limmatquai. It consists of narrow pedestrian cobbled streets lined with stores and restaurants and several small squares such as Stussihofstatt platz and Hirschenplatz. It is also one of the city's best nightlife areas
Access & Transport
The neighbourhood is a short walk from the 3 main churches of Zurich, a 10mins walk from the main station and trams 4 and 11 stop at Rathaus, which can be considered one of the gateways to Niederdorf.
Instructions & Recommendations
Plenty of restaurant choices there, so a good place to go both at lunch time and in the evenings. There is a wide range of sights around such as Grossmünster church, the town hall (Rathaus), and the Kunsthaus Zürich (art museum).
Environmental & Social
Not overly built-up, the lake is nearby and this is overall a green city. Preserves the city's traditional architecture
Conclusion
Niederdorf is very much the cliché European medieval old town travellers come to expect and love. It is touristy and price are Zurich'esque, but it doesn't feel artificial or over-commercialized. Compact and thoroughly enjoyable.
