A very cool art piece (known in Silver Lake as the Bates Motel) on display between Bates Ave and Sunset Blvd. Done by French artist Vincent Lamouroux (using a type of "ecologically safe" limewash) this once was the seedy Sunset Pacific Motel.

I would always drive by wondering what the hell the city was planning on doing with this poor, broken-down building. I mean, it was just so ugly and looked totally out of place in Silver Lake. (I only like "ghetto" to a certain extent, haha.) Looks like some developers bought the building and have plans to turn the three-story building into a apartment/retail complex. Awesome!

The exhibit is on display until May 10th so check it out before they demolish the building. Christian Bale is not included. ;)

Interesting that the whole building, the Palm trees and the fence was painted white. It's drawing a fairly large crowd. Parking is a challenge but not impossible.

Don't expect to see a crisp white building, because that is not what you'll get. This building is now filled with graffiti, weeds, and trash. Surprisingly so, I still enjoyed visiting it. These new characteristics add an extra spark to the piece; makes it really fit into its surrounding area. I was upset that the piece didn't look as it did when it was originally created but nothing ever really stays the same, right? In this case, change was not the best thing to happen, but it is what it is. Just be prepared before heading over there!
