We were doing the touristy thing and walked upon this big sign that looked super fun to visit. So we went in. The place was crowded so we thought it must be good.
The waitress was very unfriendly, she really didn't want to go to work. The food took a long time before it came and worst of all, it didn't taste good. I was so disappointed as this was my first Viennese meal!
When it was time to pay, my husband tipped really handsomely, like he always does, and the waitress' eyes lit up and she sprang into life. I understand that waiters and waitresses work for tips with some restaurants but come on, you're at work so act the part.
Overall, the experience wasn't great. I wish I went to McDonald's nearby instead.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Niro W.Gaithersburg, MD228206421Dec 21, 2017
I absolutely love this place! Used to come here as a kid, so of course I had to come here after coming home to Vienna! I had the pumpkin creme soup, schnitzel made out of chicken and then for dessert i had A chocolate cake with chocolate sauce. Its located by stephansplatz, so its very easy to get there by train/car or other mode of transportation. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is very friendly as well.

So i did a little wiki'ing before I sat down for this review and i can't help but laugh at the experience.
This was the FIRST meal we had in Austria. After checking in on Saturday around noon, we were starving. By the time we got to Karlsplatz station, I was willing to eat anything. Since we didn't really know anything nor the area, we found the first restaurant sign that seemed okay. Weinerwald, meaning Vienna Woods, or what I would have translated to Wiener World or Vienna World, seemed like a proper place to eat. As soon as we walked in, my boyfriend said, "man, this place looks like Denny's - I don't think we should eat here." At that moment, I was too hungry to care. My argument was, "look, if someone came to the US and they never tried Denny's or iHOP, they wouldn't really get a sense of the real american culture. So maybe we need to get a real sense of the Viennese culture." In some ways, I was neither wrong nor right....
Apparently, Wienerwald used to be a fast food chain that started in Munich, then made a spinoff casual dining restaurant in Austria, and then bankrupted because everyone thought they sold, well, weiners...their specialty is supposed to be CHICKEN, but we didnt order that, of course not. The menu had all sorts of Classic Viennese cuisine, and not knowing the place was known for chicken, we ordered "Viennese Classics".
We ordered a steak, smothered with gravy, and a Viennese minced veal sausage like dish. Neither of which I now know the name. So no, we didn't order the chicken, and was confused as to why there were roosters on the door (see pic). Each dish was approximate 12EUR.
Anyway, the food was no good. It was salty but bland in flavour. My boyfriend to this day, still grumbles about having had to eat there. So I think unless you're a local and want to eat some fast food chicken, you might want to avoid this place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Vladimir M.Rüsselsheim, Germany020204Feb 15, 2018

Be careful here if you are a tourist and paying by credit card! Our waiter took our credit card to the back (not normal as charges are usually made with a portable device at the table) and brought back the paper to sign for the correct amount (26 euros) to which we added the appropriate tip, but when he gave us the actual receipt (which was already printed out) it was for 36 euros, almost a 40% tip!

Went last night. There was a notice on the door in German. Not sure why they were closed - for renovations, perhaps.
