Four people rescued from waist-deep water on Holy Island causeway
Emergency teams swooped after vehicle was caught out by tide

Four people had to be rescued from the Holy Island causeway after the vehicle they were in was caught out by the rising tide.
Coastguard teams from Berwick, Holy Island and Seahouses, along with the inshore lifeboat from Seahouses, were scrambled to the Northumberland beauty spot after the alarm was raised shortly before midday today (Monday).
When they arrived, they found the occupants waist-deep in water.
All four were transferred to the lifeboat and taken back to the mainland, where they were met by a family member. They did not require medical treatment.

The Holy Island refuge box has recently been replaced after being severely damaged during Storm Arwen.
Built in 1954, it's elevated on a bridge, acting as a safe place for those who get stranded by the rising tide.
In 2022, more than 20 people - including eight children - were caught out on the causeway, despite efforts to highlight safe crossing times.

A spokesperson for Berwick Coastguard said: "Please make sure you check the very well publicised crossing times prior to your trip to Holy Island. If you approach the causeway to find that the road is under the North Sea, DO NOT attempt to cross!"
