History

Radenthein was first mentioned in 1177 by pastor Hartmann as "villae Ratehtim cum capella" . The establishment of settlements Döbriach and Kaning is expected already 1000 years ago. The mining operations are detectable even from the time of the late Middle Ages in Radentheine. On the site of today plant with magnesite was first operated a blacksmith shop for processing iron. From the late 18 century were used melting furnaces. In 1904 was found magnesite on the northeast side of Millstätter Alps in the valley Globatschbachtal. The first director Emil Winter has received honorary citizenship of the community in 1933 and also financed the first pool in Radentheine.

Location and climate

Radenthein is located opposite from the valley in northeastern part of the Millstätter lake at the foot of the mountains Nockberge. Radenthein is divided into six cadastral territory: Döbriach Kaning, Laufenberg, Radenthein, Svätý Peter in Tweng and Tweng.

Tourist attractions

Parish Church of St. Nicholas: Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas above village is simple church from 17 century with Romanesque-Gothic core. Eldest mention of it dates from 1177 and became a parish church since 1262. Turkish house: Turkish house in Kaning and the "Mill tourist trail" lying opposite along the Rossbach belong to local attractions. This road leads around seven mills, most of them are from the early 19th century. Granatium: Museum of grenade "Granatium" with panoramic caves and spaces.

Surroundings

Parish Church of St. Peter in Tweng: about the age and construction of this church are not accurate records. It is certain that it is a very old building. The oldest surviving records about the church of St. Peter dates back to 1212. The Archbishop Eberhard II confirmed in them purchase "Good Tweng" (12 April 1212) together with the right about patronage of St. Peter's church by Bishop Walter from Conrad of the parish in Salzburg. According to the chronicles of the church was fortified in 1481 against the Turks.
