Fulpmes

Fulpmes is a town and it is center of the iron industry in the Tyrol Valley called Stubai (Austria) and has 4169 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011), of which about 700 people have a non-Austrian nationality.

History

The place was first mentioned in records in 1286 as Vultmeis, which had the meaning "wolf." Later it was also known as Wultmeins and Vulpes. Street names, partially well preserved galleries and tools found at galleries, suggest centuries of mining, metallurgy of iron and iron processing in the city. From 16 to 18 century the iron was mined from the clay mud. Later, the gold and silver were mined here as well.

Location and climate

Village belongs to the district Innsbruck Land. Fulpmes area of ​​the town is situated on 16 square kilometers. It consists of two main urban areas,  Medraz and Fulpmes. The city lies in altitude of 936 m above sea level (railway station) and is accessible by public transport from Innsbruck.

Tourist attractions

Parish Church of St. Vitus, built by Franz de Paula Penz in baroque style with Anthony Giglio's rococo plaster, student hostel called Don Bosco and church, then house with a wide window decor on the church square established by Clemens Holzmeister, built in 1755 and War Memorial on the church square, originally Dollfus's Memorial.

Surroundings

The village is also known for its tourism. The ski resort Schlick was accessed from this place. Since 1904, the city Fulpmes is associated with Innsbruck local electric trains (Stubaitalbahn). Close links with the metallurgical industry is also evident in the town erbe, which shows the anvil in the background in the colors of the Tilrolsko Land.
