Villacher Alpenstrasse 

The scenic Alpine Road stretches for 16km and is one of the busiest routes in Southern Austria. This section of the road boasts some of the most fantastic scenery in Southern Austria. The drive is definitely worth it and you can enjoy things like the scenery and landscapes along the way. The viewing platform is a nice touch, too! It’s not that expensive considering all of what you get to see in person.

Landskron Castle 

Villach’s old city center is located just outside of the ancient castle of Alt-Landskron. It all dates back to the 800s and appears to have increased in use in the 14th century when it was a royal possession, Landskron Castle.

Naturpark Dobratsch 

Dobratsch Nature Park is situated on Villach Alpine Road and offers a range of activities, views, and experiences. Its charming surroundings will captivate you. If you’re interested in discovering the Alps, you can visit alpine peaks, explore forests and even watch wildlife perform on unfettered terrain. 

Lake Faak 

One of the four main lakes listed in this article, Lake Faak, has an area of 2.2km and is the fifth largest in the state of Carinthia. The waters are a brilliant shade of turquoise and are well-known for how clear they are making them a popular spot for swimming. 

Villach Main Square 

The Hauptplatz has located 10 minutes away from the train station and is a nice place for visitors to continue their exploration of Villach. There are a lot of old buildings like Alte post that have been around for a while, and they provide some nice scenery. The trinity column is the centerpiece when it comes to squares in the German capital.

Lake Silbersee 

One of the many lakes in the greater Villach area, Silbersee lake is actually an artificial lake that was constructed this century during the construction of the Sud Autobahn. This shallow lake is perfect for swimming, bathing, and sunbathing. It’s also a great place for fishing! Due to its much smaller size than the other Lakes near Villach, Silbersee freezes over in the winter months and is a popular stomping ground for ice-skating.

Lake Aichwaldsee 

With a beautiful, tranquil lake close by and plenty of exploratory opportunities, this contrast in colors makes it easy to see this hidden gem. Since the water is slightly darker than Lake Faak’s, the quality of the water is still good.

Villacher Fahrzeugmuseum

Stadtpfarrturm (Villach St. Jakob) 

This Roman Catholic Church in Villach, Austria was built around 1100 and has seen many different changes over time. St. Michael’s Basilica is one of the most interesting and beautiful churches in Carinthia with its Romanesque style. After centuries of fire-resistive history, it has a bell tower that tops out at 241 feet tall. The main draw of the church is the view from the top of the bell tower which offers many unique angles. The top also offers 360-degree views of Villach and the countryside surrounding it.

Lake Ossiach 

This is the largest of the lakes surrounding Villach. It is also the third largest in the state of Carinthia with a surface area of 10.38km. Besides being a peaceful retreat, this lake is also rich with fun activities. You can try your hand at water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking, and boating. Its fantastic surroundings add to the relaxing atmosphere and make it easy to forget that you’re just a few minutes outside of the city center. As one of the premier tourist destinations in the region, Lake Michigan has a variety of eateries, hotels, and establishments scattered among its five main towns. 

Museum of the City of Villach 

Dating back to the 1800s this is one of the largest (and oldest) municipal museums in Austria and has a very large collection of both prehistoric artifacts and regional displays of Carinthia. One of the main highlights of the museum is its reconstructed battlements that show off the old town walls. They also have a totally epic rare coin collection.

Falconry display at Landskron Castle 

The view may not be something you see every day, but this isn’t the only thing that drives the most from a trip to Landskron Castle. There’s also the falconry show which offers onlookers an up-close look at these beautiful birds of prey. Not only can you see the view from Landskron Castle, but there is also a variety of different birds on display. Obviously more at other locations, but it’s an interesting tour nevertheless. There is a falconry show that happens twice a day to watch as well and it’s one to not miss. The castle itself also holds some fascinating history as well as.

Maibachl hot spring 

This natural phenomenon does not happen often, but it does come about occasionally. It’s dependent on the weather conditions and climate in the area, but in general, it will appear in the spring months. There’ve been reported cases of this pool appearing outside these time frames, though.
