A Black Planet WASP-12b
WASP-12b (WASP means Wide Angle Search for Planets)
Discovery was on April 1, 2008. Takes a little more than a day to orbit WASP-12, where as the Earth takes 365 days to orbit the Sun.
December 3, 2012 Scientists at HST (Hubble Space Telescope) said they detected water in the atmosphere of WASP-12b. However in July of 2014 NASA said they found a very dry atmosphere of WASP-12b and three other exoplanets orbiting Sun-like stars.
September 2017 researchers from HST said that WASP-12b absorbs 94% of the light that shines on the surface of it. It is known as Pitch Black Hot Jupiter, Makes sense seeing how the dark colors absorb light and not reflect it.
Scientists say that WASP-12b is being consumed by it's Sun-Like Star; Estimates the exoplanet has 10 million years left.
The atmosphere of the exoplanet has expanded to almost 3 times the radius of Jupiter and it has 40% more mass.
