This is a long but very easy walk across Schweizberg, with stunning panoramic views of Bregenzerwald. It’s mostly south facing and probably best done in spring as the remaining snow on the mountains and the spring flowers make the views even more amazing.

Start the walk in the village of Langenegg in Vorarlberg. Make your way north through the village until you reach Hotel Krone. Just before the hotel, turn right into a quiet road.

Continue into Oberlangenegg and from here up to the top of Schweizberg. This is just a little hill outside of Langenegg but the views from the top are lovely.

On the other side of Schweizberg, make your way down towards Krumbach. On the way down you will have views towards Sulzberg on the other side of the valley and the slope this walk will lead along.

Make your way through Krumbach, where there is a restaurant in case you need a short break. Continue downhill through Zwing and Hasen, all the way down to the Weissach river, which you cross on a wooden bridge.

On the other side of the bridge it’s uphill again towards Simlisgschwend. It’s not a long uphill and the views will get better with every step up the hill. In the small hamlet of Simlisgschwend, turn left onto a quiet paved road. This is where the really panoramic part of the walk starts.

Follow this quiet road , passing some farm houses and enjoying the lovely views on the way until you get to a bend in a slightly larger road. The road leads to Doren on the left and Langschwend to the right.

Turn right along the road and when reaching Langschwend, keep going uphill for more views. Just before reaching the woods, turn left. Now it’s downhill towards Doren across the fields.

In Doren, cross the main road and then follow the path west, above the river. It will lead through meadows and woods, slowly making it’s way downhill towards the Weissach. Where the Bregenzer Ach and the Weissach meet, cross the Weissach and start the uphill back into Langenegg.

After crossing the bridge you have a choice to follow the river and take the longer way back to Langenegg. However, for this hike, turn left on a steepish uphill directly after crossing the bridge and make your way into Langenegg.
