Habit
Monstera adansonii variety laniata are happy climbers and vigorous growers and their leaves can grow quite large when grown outdoors, in ideal conditions. They need to climb for the leaves to reach adult form and size.
The new baby leaves on young plants are usually have no fenestrations (holes). The leaves develop their signature holes once the plant has attached to a strong support and started to climb and mature. The leaves sometimes start with just one or two holes which gives some of them an interesting look in that mid phase of their growth.
Origin
