Götzens is situated 7 km southwest of Innsbruck on the western terrace. Today Götzens is characterized by a great influx of people that have lead to an enormous growth of the village. Only the long stretched centre still shows the original character of the former farming community. Besides being a suburb of Innsbruck, Götzens profits from the proximity of the tourist centre of the Axamer Lizum. The building of the road leading to Innsbruck for the Winter Olympics 1964 and the road through the new settlement of Neu-Götzens towards Mutters have enhanced this structural change of Götzens.
