Schlitters is situated in the lower Zillertal. The village consists of the scattered village of Schlitters, which is situated on the fan of the Öxl Torrent, and the scattered settlement of Schlitterberg on the slopes west of the Ziller River. Schlitterberg cannot be reached on a road from the bottom of the valley, but on a road from Rotholz in the Inntal. Intensive agriculture is to be found on the flat land near the Ziller River. In Schlitters people find employment in one of the small and medium-sized business enterprises, but the majority of the people has to commute. A man-made fish pond from the 16th century has recently been transformed into a spacious swimming pond.
