TROY, Ala. – Kayla Saager makes the jump to Troy women's soccer assistant coach, head coach Robert Lane announced Friday afternoon.

"I'm delighted to announce the promotion of Kayla Saager into the role of assistant coach with our program here at Troy," Lane said. "Kayla brings a wealth of knowledge from her playing experience at the collegiate and professional ranks. More importantly, she's got a familiarity with the program and the university from her time here in the last few years. We look forward to seeing how her skill set helps this program reach new heights."

Saager enters her third season as a women's soccer coach after joining in 2020 as a part-time assistant coach. In those two seasons, Saager has worked under two head coaches, Ged O'Connor and Nicole Waters, for a combined record of 11-20-2. She also helped coach Lindsey LaRoche to an All-Sun Belt Second Team nod last season.

"After watching the women's soccer team grow over the past few years, I am thrilled to be named the new assistant coach," Saager said. "I am honored to have the opportunity to be part of Robert Lane's vision for the future success of the program."

The New York native earned her degree in Sociology from Binghamton University in 2018, playing collegiate soccer for the Bearcats after transferring from NC State (2014) and West Virginia (2015). After graduating from Binghamton, Saager went overseas to the Czech Republic to play professionally with the FC Slovacko Zeny in 2019.

While playing with the Bearcats, Saager was named the 2017 America East Striker of the Year after scoring 11 goals and dishing off seven assists. After two seasons with Binghamton, Saager left her mark with the SUNY school, ranking second all-time in goals per game (0.59) and points per game (1.51).

The Lane-Saager duo led Troy to a 3-0 spring season with wins over Alabama A&M, Samford and Alabama State. Saager's official debut as the new assistant coach is against Samford on Aug. 7 in the team's first exhibition game before taking on Texas Tech in the regular season opener on Aug. 18.
