People freak out after picture of separation in spaghetti junction goes viral

Thousands of people shared the picture with a warning.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- No worries, folks. Spaghetti Junction is just fine.

picture was posted to Facebook showing a gap between two sections of the I-285 interstate bridge that connects Atlanta with north metro Atlanta.

The picture was posted at 5:24 p.m. and less than 24 hours later, it had been shared more than 13,000 times. Several people sent the photo to 11Alive asking us to let people know how dangerous it was.

That’s why we’re writing this story. There is no danger.

The Georgia Department of Transportation confirmed that the gap is known as an expansion joint. It’s a joint that allows the bridge to expand and contract as needed and is common in bridge design.

They've been responding to people on Twitter telling them not to worry. Ibe tweet read "the bridge is fine & is designed as it appears. Thanks for your concern!" and explains the expansion gap.
