Schwertberg© Copyright Schwertberg Castle Schwertberg, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Perg, alt. 268 m, pop. 4,532, area 18.75 km2, situated at the entry of the River Aist into the Danube plain. - Volkshilfe welfare organisation; production of machines (die-casting), plastics processing industry, wool spinning mill, cardboard factory, forwarding agency. - Gothic parish church (late 15th century), enlarged in 1913/14, Baroque interior; cavalry church (1689, by C. A. Carlone); Schwertberg Castle, formerly a moated fortress (documented mention in 1287), enlarged in 1608 by A. Canevale, courtyard, corner towers, library, Chinese chamber, falcon cage next to castle keep; the castle was once under the control of the robber baron B. Zeller and the rebel G.
