The holiday region in the Salzburger Land

Deep in the mountains of the Salzburger Land, nestled in a basin, you will discover the World Cup village of Zauchensee. Its location on 1,350 metres above sea level and its geographical position make it a true snow catcher in winter and therefore one of the most popular ski regions in the state of Salzburg. And in summer, the holiday region turns into a versatile playground for small discoverers and big mountain sportsmen.

The pearl in the Salzburger Land: Altenmarkt-Zauchensee

Small, but mighty: Zauchensee is a village part of the municipality Altenmarkt im Pongau. Big enough to offer everything that the mountains have in store and yet small enough for a homely “feel-at-home-sensation”. The easy accessibility of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee also adds to its attraction: On the Tauernautobahn motorway you can simply take the region’s own exit and land right in the ski region. From the city of Salzburg you only drive 45 minutes, from Munich about 2 hours. Moreover, Zauchensee offers a particularity in summer, namely the lake of the same name. It becomes warm enough for the odd “dive” on hot summer days.

Between mountain and lake

Summer makes families’ eyes shine: It is not only the cordiality of the Alpenhof team but also the numerous adventure, fun and sports activities in the region that make up a great summer vacation with extra feel-good atmosphere. Children and teenagers look forward to the animation programme Magic Mountains full of surprises while the big ones explore the region e.g. during hiking, mountaineering, biking or golfing.

Winter holidays in Zauchensee

In winter, the region becomes a destination for winter sports enthusiasts from near and far. Over 80 slope kilometres stretch across Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Flachauwinkl & Kleinarl, but the core of the ski fun is definitely in Zauchensee. Numerous lifts run up the mountains here and at the same time there are first-class ski schools for the little ones or those starting to ski (again). And what is even better, as a part of Ski Amadé you can expect still more ski fun: 760 slope kilometres and 270 lifts and cable cars in 5 ski regions promise winter fun of superlatives. In this light it is not surprising that the perfect conditions in Zauchensee have also brought forth top athletes. Walk in the footsteps of Olympia medal winner and World Cup winner Michael Walchhofer who learnt how to ski on the slopes of Salzburg and has been living in his home village Zauchensee to this day.
