ÖBB tunnel chain Perschling

Description

Client: ÖBB
Planner: BHM engineers Linz/Vienna
Executive company: Meisl Grein Upper Austria
construction period: 2009 / 2010

The four-track expansion of the Westbahn route requires the new construction of the section between the Wienerwald tunnel and St. Pölten station with a length of 44 km. One part of the route is the Perschling tunnel chain, which is being built with 6 tunnel structures and a total length of approx. 14 km. In this case, the extinguishing water supply was implemented using a special solution. The tunnel sections were provided with empty piping embedded in the concrete structure, into which the actual extinguishing water line made of steel pipes from Mannesmann Line Pipe was pulled. The steel pipeline is centered in the empty casing by skids and subsequently separated at the extraction points in order to install the extraction fittings. The longest draw-in section comprises approx. 3400 m of DN150 steel pipe.
