Note that this tool is NOT needed for crank set installation. It is used for REMOVAL of the Shimano XTR FC-M970 crank set.

The TL-FC35 crank arm tool made getting the non-drive side crank arm off a snap... in fact, I'm not sure how one would safely get the arm off the hollow crank axle (spindle?) without the tool. I mean, I can imagine ways to get the arm off, but all of them would likely damage the crank arm and/or the axle.

The other tool you will need for crank removal as mentioned in another review is an 8mm hex head (allen) wrench. There are detailed write-ups online for use of this tool. I assume if you are looking for this tool you've already searched the internet for the procedure, so I'll refrain from repeating here.
