Audi History

The Audi history started in 1899 by August Horch, when he founded the Horch & Cie automotive group. It was there he created his first vehicle and included the inline four engine and six-cylinder models that began to set the standard for Audi. Not long after, August founded a second car company under a new name, Audi. The Audi name came from the Latin translation of "horch" or "hark", meaning "listen." 

As Dampf-Kraft-Wagen and Wanderer, and other notable German auto brands began making a name for themselves, they joined together with Audi to formthe Auto Union. Here, they continued to perfect consumer and racing vehicles for decades.

Audi eventually incorporated on its own, however, it still pays homage to the four German companies that innovated together through the four rings that compromise their logo.
