Burg Schlaining Burgenland Schlaining Castle
Schlaining Castle, built in the 12th/13th century, was situated on a strategically important north-south toll road. It was pledged in 1441 by Emperor Frederick III to the mercenary leader Andreas Baumkircher, who took it into his possession along with the dominion in 1461, expanded it into a strong fortress and founded Stadtschlaining as a civic settlement.

Schloss Schönbühel lies below Melk on the right bank of the Danube in the Lower Austrian municipality of Schönbühel-Aggsbach. On a rock about 40 metres high, on which a Roman fortress probably once stood, the castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century by Marchwardus de Schoenbuchele as an easily defended fortress.The mighty towers and rondels as well as underground and partly buried passages indicate the presence of castle dungeons and dungeons in the past.

The castle ruin Dürnstein is a castle ruin in the Wachau above the village Dürnstein in Austria. The castle is well known because the English King Richard the Lionheart, who returned from the Third Crusade, was held prisoner in Dürnstein or an adjacent castle from December 1192 to March 1193 on the initiative of Duke Leopold V under Hadmar II, and then handed over to the German Emperor Henry VI.

The ruins of Schachenstein Castle are located in the municipality of Thörl, above the village not far from the Thörlbach stream, about 12 km northwest of Kapfenberg, province of Styria, Schachenstein is the last high castle to be built in Styria. It served primarily as a fortified, stately residence. The castle's administrators were therefore not subject to any servants. Despite serious unrest such as the Baumkircher Feud and the Turkish invasions, the castle was never exposed to a siege.

It has been rebuilt and renovated several times over the years and changed hands several times. Today the castle is run as a hotel with a restaurant. A freemason museum is located there.
