- Description

The monastery is the largest and best-known monastery in Eastern Styria, the open-air museum right next to it provides a good insight into rural life in days gone by and the village of Vorau itself has a beautiful center with equally beautiful inns. If you want to see this picturesque village from above, get on your bike and take the Stiftsblick tour. The most beautiful "Stifts-Blicke" await right after the first climb up to Dörfl and then on the ride down from Riegersberg. The views of the Wechsel and the Reinberg church are further arguments in favor of this tour.
Starting from the imposing Vorau Abbey, right next to the URKRAFT Arena, the Stiftsblick Tour leads to the Reinberg Church and back to the market via Riegersberg. The starting point, Vorau Abbey, is the only monastery in Styria that is still active, and the open-air museum is located right next to it. Along the tour route, you also pass the Marktkirche church. With the destination, the Reinbergkirche, you discover another church on this tour. The tour is a highlight with special buildings, especially for those interested in culture.
Most of the route is asphalted, but around 2 kilometers are paved paths that can be managed with normal trekking bikes.
- Directions
-
Start: Vorau, at the URKRAFT Arena or in front of Vorau Abbey
The Stiftsblick Tour also follows parts of the "Der große Jogl" tour, if it does not follow the "Große Jogl", it is signposted as the "Stiftsblick Tour".
From the URKRAFT Arena, or the parking lot at the open-air museum, head out in the direction of "Stift".At the crossroads, we turn right up to the monastery, take a sharp left and head out to the left, following the "Großer Jogl" signs towards MönichwaldWe turn right and descend steeply into the center of Vorau. We cross the road in front of the "Vorauerhof" and continue straight ahead. We leave the village along the stream. The route now climbs steeply towards "Dörfl" and soon we have a beautiful view down to the monastery.Watch out, we now turn right into the forest ("Der große Jogl") and continue along a farm track. Don't worry, the path is easier to follow than the first section suggests. After a few kilometers, we can already see the church tower of the Reinbergkirche ahead of us.We turn right and ride the short stretch to the church, which is usually closed.Back to Vorau, we take the same route to Moihof and keep left at the recycling center and continue over the bridge towards Vorau. In Vorau, we keep to the right at the armory, pass the town hall and ride down to the "Vorauerhof".Before the "Vorauerhof", we turn left in the direction of the "Kutscherwirt", the last section is a steep climb up to the monastery.
