You are currently viewing Cala Goloritzè trekking: discover the route to one of Sardinia’s most spectacular beaches

Sardinia is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt regions in Italy, and is a paradise for nature lovers and trekkers. One of the most beautiful and spectacular trails in Sardinia is undoubtedly the one that leads to Cala Goloritzè, a beach of rare beauty located not far from Baunei. Its beauty is to be preserved, which is why it is not possible to reach it directly by boat, but only to stay offshore or reach it on foot.

Cala Goloritzè is the ideal place for sportsmen, as it is possible to reach it on foot along the path, but it is also a favourite destination for climbers. In fact, the Guglia has some of the most beautiful walls on the island for climbing enthusiasts.

The path

Cala Goloritzé can be reached on foot by a path starting from the village of Baunei, about an hour and 15 minutes away from Cala Gonone. The path to Cala Goloritzè is about 4.5 km long with an altitude difference of about 400 metres. The trek starts from the Golgo Plateau, where the path to Cala Mariolu also begins, and is characterised by a series of ascents and descents that make it quite demanding, which is why we recommend undertaking it only if adequately prepared and well equipped.

The difficulty of the path is medium-high, with steep and uneven sections, but the landscape one admires along the way amply repays the effort.

After about an hour’s walk, you arrive at Punta Salinas, from where you can admire a spectacular panorama of the coast. From here, the path continues through Mediterranean scrub until it reaches the famous ‘Scala di Goloritzè’, a natural staircase carved into the rock that leads to the beach of Cala Goloritzè.

Cala Goloritzè is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia, so much so that it has been a Natural Monument of the Region of Sardinia since 1993, with its fine white sand and crystal-clear waters silhouetted against the sheer cliffs. The beach is small and set in a small bay, which makes it even more striking and evocative.

When to go to Cala Goloritzè

The best time to go to Cala Goloritzè is in spring or autumn: when the heat is not torrid and the vegetation is lush, the mild climate makes encounters with the local fauna more likely: goats and sheep are wont to stop along the path.
