Get ready, Boston, because the Red Bull Flugtag is coming to town.

If your unfamiliar with the event, it’s a bizarre competition where people create and pilot their own homemade flying machines which they use to soar off of a 28-foot high deck before making a splash into the water below. Competitors also usually wear crazy costumes to accompany their colorful creations.

The Red Bull Flugtag will take over Boston for the first time in its 25 year history on Sunday, August 20. Participants will dive into the Charles River near the Hatch Shell during the day of festivities.

Considering all of the wicked smart college kids around town (we’re looking at you, MIT), we wouldn’t be too surprised if a local team ended up beating the 258-foot distance record that was set in Long Beach, California in 2013.

This isn’t the first time Red Bull has held an extreme event in Boston, as the Institute of Contemporary Arts has hosted several Cliff Diving World Championships in recent years.

If you’re feeling the urge to take a plunge into the Charles this summer, flugtag designs must be sent in by Friday, May 13. While the application is free to submit, only people 18 or older are allowed to compete.

Following a review process, teams of five will be selected on Thursday, June 2.
