You may have heard of Bea Arthur — you know, the star of Maude or most notably the tallest and sassiest of The Golden Girls.
Well, TIL that Bea Arthur was ALSO the spokesperson of a Shoppers Drug Mart campaign that ran from 1984 to 1991 — and I had no idea what to do with this information other than write about it!
It turns out that although she held a position against doing advertisements, Bea decided the campaign for the Toronto based store chain would be fun since it would never air in the States. She was truly iconic — her "take no shit" image gave way to 35 (!!) super successful commercials because who doesn't love Bea Arthur???
So without further ado, let's watch some of these gems!
1.Brenda's giving "The 5th Golden Girl".
2.Seen here: Bea Arthur being maternal.
3.Miss Arthur, you flirt you!
4.Truly, the hero we need but don't deserve.
5.Of course she had a lifetime membership on the "nice list".
6.She can truly sell me anything.
7.Gosh, Brenda, get it together!
8."Pick, Pack, and Tote." Did ya get that?
9.And finally, why was there a fuel pump in the store?
You can find more of these ~high quality~ nuggets of pure brand loyalty on YouTube. Are there any other nostalgic celebrity ad campaigns you think I should know about?
