Luxury fashion houses are looking to bolster their pandemic profits with new ranges of stylish designer hosiery.

While many would do little to ward off the winter chill, the offerings from Gucci, Fendi and Chanel certainly make a statement - though they come with eye-watering price tags.

Embellished with the French label's double-C logo stitched in velvet, Chanel's £315 semi-sheer black tights are proving the most coveted among fashionistas.

Only available to purchase at boutiques, the hosiery was first modelled by Gigi Hadid, HyunJi Shin and Mona Tougaard on the runway at Paris Fashion Week back in March.

Last month French actress Céline Sallette wore head-to-toe monogrammed Chanel - including the tights - at the Deauville American Film Awards.

Danish influencer Pernille Teisbæk also gave the Chanel tights her seal of approval, sharing a snap of the logo-embellished hosiery with her 920,000 followers with the caption: 'If I was going out.'

The trend is clearly catching on, with retail analyst Lyst reporting searches for designer tights are up 61 per cent since September.

If you're prone to ladders it may be best to avoid Gucci's nude tights embellished with crystals - which will set you back an eye-watering £750, the same price as its leather Marmont crossbody handbag.

The brand also offers a sheer stretch-knit pair with an elasticated waist in black, again priced at £750.

Fendi is also selling a pair of motif black elastane/spandex fishnet tights embroidered with the F logo and featuring a semi-transparent construction, for a mere £220.

Prada offers a greater range of colours - blue (pictured), green, purple or black - with its ribbed tights spun from stretch-silk with a semi-sheer finish at the house's atelier in Italy.=
