A woman managed to escape her mangled Audi with just cuts and bruises after flying off the road and rolling 150 metres down a steep hill.

The vehicle, a black Audi A3 (circled) was being driven by a 28-year-old woman from Haywards Heath when it left Ditchall Road at around 2:30am

The road was closed and did not re-open until 9am that morning, according to Sussex police, who added that it was closed again briefly at 10am so the car could be recovered

Emergency services were called to the top of Ditchling Road, near Westmeston, where it is believed she left the road.  

Firefighters spent 20 minutes trying to find the car, as it was dark but they eventually located the badly-damaged vehicle at the bottom of the hill near the village of Westmeston. 

A helicopter was dispatched the assist the operation, which took two-and-a-half hours, according to the The Argus.  

Paramedics and firefighters carried the injured woman, who was from Haywards Heath, to the aircraft's landing site.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: 'At 2.40am police were called to Bostall Road, Ditchling Beacon, where a car was reported to have crashed and rolled 150 metres down a steep bank.

'A 28-year-old woman was released from the vehicle and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with cuts and bruises.'
