In yet more reboot-related news, it appears MTV is bringing back iconic series Celebrity Deathmatch one more time. Because, well, why the hell not, eh?

After two series and one failed attempt, MTV is bringing back the classic wrestling show for a brand new hot take, according to a report in Variety.

The stop-motion animation series originally aired on MTV, before coming to a close in 2001. Celebrity Deathmatch then returned in 2006 for two seasons on MTV2.

Fortunately for us, the rather bizarre show – which creates celebrity parodies of wrestling matches – is set to return under the watchful eye of Ice Cube.

Confirming the (exciting?) news, MTV president Chris McCarthy spoke of the network's plans to "reimagine this fan favourite".

"Deathmatch was the meme before memes," he claimed, adding: "[It] remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring."

As they always say, fourth time lucky and all that.

Of course, Celebrity Deathmatch isn't the only show MTV has on its revival horizon – reality series The Hills and '90s cult cartoon Daria are also getting the reboot treatment.

Sure, remakes are fun and all, but what about a Celebrity Deathmatch x The Hills crossover instead? MTV, call us.
