Stephen Gundersheim

Stephen Gundersheim received his bachelor's in theatre from Northwestern University with a concentration in acting and musical theatre and earned his MFA in Theatre for Youth from Arizona State University with an emphasis in theatre education, directing and creative drama. He is an associate professor in the Theatre and Dance Department at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. Gundersheim teaches directing and acting and directs productions for the department. Before working at Winthrop, he taught theatre at Pentucket Regional High School in West Newbury, Mass., where he directed and choreographed more than 25 productions. Gundersheim also worked as a freelance director and choreographer and co-founded and served as the co-artistic director of SPiNN, a jazz dance company in Methuen, Mass. where he choreographed and performed. Before that, Gundersheim performed in plays, musicals, television and film in California, Georgia, Arizona, Illinois, West Virginia and Massachusetts as well as on cruise ships. At Winthrop, he enjoys working with the Theatre Education majors as they study to become theatre teachers. While at Winthrop, Gundersheim has directed multiple plays and musicals. He has also directed at Children's Theatre of Charlotte, Theatre Charlotte and the Jewish Community Center of Charlotte. Gundersheim is a member of AATE, Southeastern Theatre Conference, South Carolina Theatre Association and Educational Theatre Association. He lives in Charlotte, N.C., with his stunning wife, Susan, and their three theatrical children, Hannah, Rebecca and Doron. House of Cards is Gundersheim's first published play.
