Slipknot tickets offered after Snoop Dogg no-show

Times staff report

The El Paso County Coliseum is offering free tickets to Wednesday night's Slipknot heavy metal concert after Snoop Dogg cancelled last weekend.

The Grammy Award-winning heavy-metal band Slipknot will perform Sept. 28 at the El Paso County Coliseum, 4100 E. Paisano. Tickets for the concert go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Snoop was a no-show after being advertised as the opening night headliner Friday at the Texas Tattoo Showdown Festival at the coliseum.

Patrons with a tattoo festival pink entry wristband for last Friday or a green three-day entry wristband can trade them for a pair of Slipknot tickets at the coliseum box office, coliseum officials said in a news release.

The wristbands can be traded from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the coliseum box office, 4100 E. Paisano Drive. Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. concert will go to the first 200 people.

The El Paso County Coliseum only rented the space for the Texas Tattoo Showdown Festival, coliseum officials said.

The tickets are being offered to show appreciation for patrons of the coliseum, said Brian Kennedy, president and CEO of the El Paso Sports Commission that runs the coliseum.

“Though we are just the venue that hosted the (tattoo) event, we value our patrons,” Kennedy said in a statement. “We were just as disappointed to not see Snoop Dogg at the event at the El Paso County Coliseum on Friday."

George Galindo, founder and CEO of the Texas Tattoo Showdown Festival, has said that he is working on a make-up concert with Snoop Dogg at a later date. Patrons with a festival wristband would get in free. No refunds are being offered for the festival tickets.
