Slipknot Is Looking To Make Grammy History This Year

Following

For decades now, Slipknot has remained both one of the most successful hard rock bands in the world and one of the most controversial. While some may not be fans of the masked rockers, the Recording Academy continues to recognize them regularly, and they have slowly become one of the most-nominated groups in their genres. This year, they’re looking to add to their collection of prizes, and if they snag another win, they will match some of the most beloved names in their world.

Slipknot is currently nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 2024 Grammys. The group is up for the honor for their single “Hive Mind.” They return to this category for the first time since 2016, and they could score a very important new trophy.

If “Hive Mind” collects the Best Metal Performance Grammy, Slipknot will become just the seventh name to claim more than one honor in this specific field. With a second win, they’ll tie Slayer, Nine Inch Nails, Black Sabbath, and that group’s lead singer, Ozzy Osbourne.

So far, Slipknot has only won the Best Metal Performance Grammy once. They came out on top in 2006 with "Before I Forget" after years of trying to snag a trophy.

Among all acts, Metallica rules the Best Metal Performance category. The chart-topping band has accrued six wins in this field, and they could add to that total this year, as they’re also nominated again. Tool ranks in second place, with three prizes to their credit.

While they only have one Grammy to their name–in any category–Slipknot already ranks as the second-most nominated act in the field’s history. They have thus far earned nine chances to win, including with “Hive Mind.” They come in behind only Megadeth, who have earned 11 nods–and they also count just one win.

This time around, Slipknot is up against many of the most celebrated metal bands in history. To double their total number of career Grammys, they’ll have to beat out Metallica, Disturbed, Ghost, and Spiritbox for the recognition.

The winners of the 2024 Grammys will be announced during a live telecast on CBS on February 4, 2024.
