The Murau brewery is an Austrian brewery, where the knowledge of beer production has been handed down and continuously improved since 1495 in a fair mix of tradition and innovation.

Brauerei Murau History

Already in the mid-fifteenth century there were three breweries in Murau. In the 16th century, the number grew to seven. Valentin Bauer (owner from 1823 to 1856), who was also elected first mayor of Murau in 1848, played an important role in ensuring that the Murau brewery was the only one to survive the turbulence of the 19th century. But his successors as brewery owners have always tried to adapt the company to the economic and technical framework.

Between 1906 and 1908, the municipality built the Murau power plant to supply electricity to the brewery. In 1910 the company was transformed into a cooperative. During the Second World War, the operation was threatened due to the lack of workers. With the support of Adolf von Schwarzenberg, who turned some of his followers into beer, this time he could also be bridged.

In the 1980s and 1990s, successful market strategies significantly increased the volume of beer produced.
