AUSSEERLAND SALZKAMMERGUT - SIGHTS & Lakes

The Ausseerland’s unmistakeable profile is made up of rocky mountain crags and deep lakes. Every town and village wears its history and tradition, and every lake has its own, unique character. At Lake Grundlsee, for example, winter brings premium smoked fish and ice-skating. Lake Altausseer every year plays host to the legendary Altausseer kermesse, and the woods shrouding Lake Toplitz’s shores help it keep its secrets closely guarded.

Sights in the Ausseerland

The Ausseerland is home to a great many sights to discover and explore: Don’t pass on a chance to visit the picturesque towns Bad Aussee and Altaussee, with their rich tradition of artisans’ workshops. Get a bespoke suit from legendary folk costume tailor Haselnuss and doff the hat you got from Ausseerland hatter Mr Leithner at passersby.

Our neighbouring region has a great variety of day trip destinations to offer throughout the year. You could go hiking in the Ausseerland, get a dirndl tailored at Ausseer Gwand’s or enjoy the hot spa in Bad Aussee and the Grimming Therme in Bad Mittendorf – rest assured the Ausseerland has something in store for you.

In winter, the Loser ski area in Altaussee awaits your pleasure – only a short 18 kilometres away.
