Gries im Sellrain is a small, picturesque village nestled among the impressive mountains of the Sellrain Valley. The village is only 23 kilometres or 25 minutes by car from Innsbruck. Yet despite its proximity to the state capital, you immediately feel a mountaineering atmosphere on arrival. After all, Gries is one of the three mountaineering villages in the region. In winter, the resort is popular with ski tourers. In summer, it is a starting point for excellent hikes.

The mountaineering village of Gries im Sellrain

A small village surrounded by untamed alpine scenery: Gries is one of the mountaineering villages in the Sellrain Valley and is characterised by its close ties to nature. The village has beautifully preserved its rural roots and traditions and enchants visitors with its special charm. This is an ideal destination for anyone who likes to holiday far away from mass tourism.

Alpine roses

Gries is the starting point for countless hikes in the Tyrolean mountains and promises unforgettable experiences with breathtaking views. For example, when the alpine roses cloak the mountain slopes in pink from mid-June to late July. This is a sight that can be enjoyed above an altitude of 1,500 metres. Another exciting event is the stag rutting – a loud and amazing spectacle.

Gries in winter

When temperatures start to drop, Gries becomes a winter sports destination. The small lift is ideal for learning to ski and tobogganing is also very popular. However, the ultimate highlight for energetic winter sports fans is the multitude of ski touring options in the area. Plus the fantastic ski resort of Kühtai is only a few minutes away.
