In the Middle Ages, "Burg an der Wupper" was the capital of the Bergisches Land. It was from here that the Counts of Berg ruled their little empire. The castle still towers high above the Wupper today, in Unterburg old Bergisch half-timbered houses nestle in narrow winding streets. Cafes and restaurants invite you to stop by.
As picturesque as the village looks today, there were also a number of typical industrial companies here in the valley, including an iron foundry, a machine factory, a wool spinning mill and various grinding shops.

Tip for parking: Parking spaces in Unterburg are free of charge, unlike those at the top of the castle.

Unterburg is a historic mountain village with beautifully preserved buildings and cozy coffee houses. Absolute must, an Bergisch Kaffetatel :-)
