The Hammerteich, an important body of water of the place since 1601.
It owes its name to the iron hammer mill that was located there in the 17th century.
In the 19th century a cutting mill was operated at the same location.
The water was also used to operate a bathing establishment.
The development of Georgenthal into a resort gave the pond a whole new face.
A beautiful pond promenade for strolling and strolling soon completed the new destination for guests who were now looking for peace and quiet.(Source: thueringer-wald.com)

The Hammerteich originally called Fitzteich or Pfützenteich, was created in 1601 for the rafting of the Apfelstädt and has belonged to the Flöbgraben system since 1653. Like the large mill pond, the Hammerteich has always been used for fishing. That's still like that. Only after the iron hammer was built did the name Hammerteich become established.
