Mountain Biking Highlight
Location: Kobersdorf, Oberpullendorf, Burgenland, Austria
Schloss Kobersdorf is now privately owned by Anna Schlanitz. Created around 1528 from a medieval castle.
Moving past:
Hans von Weisspriach turned the fore-castle into a castle in the style of the Renaissance. The sex of Weisspriacher dies in 1553; the rule is divided among the heirs more and more. Unclear ownership and indebtedness led to a decline of the once so magnificent court life on Kobersdorf: The castle was robber headquarters, counterfeit coins and 1599 even scene of a crime, when in the middle of the courtyard a farmer's wife was burned as a supposed witch.Synagogue and memorial Kobersdorf:
After the war, the former synagogue was left to decay for decades. A restoration was started in 1976. In 2019, the province of Burgenland bought the synagogue and plans to use it as a venue and memorial after renovation. The memorial was inaugurated in September 2017 and is intended to commemorate the former Jewish inhabitants Kobersdorf, who were expelled in 1938.
