Hochosterwitz Castle (German: Burg Hochosterwitz, Slovene: Grad Ostrovica) is a castle in Austria, considered one of Austria's most impressive medieval castles. It is on a 172-metre (564 ft) high dolomite rock near Sankt Georgen am Längsee, east of the town of Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia. The rock castle is one of the state's landmarks and a major tourist attraction.

Did you know that Knin Fortress, Croatia is one of Europe's largest fortresses? Fortress has five parts: Upper Town (Kaštel Knin), Kaštel Lab (Korlat, Bandjera), Middle Town, Lower Town and the Belvedere Station. The construction of the oldest part of the fortress, Kaštel Knin, began at the time of the Croatian national dynasty at the end of the 9th century. Over the centuries, it was conquered, destroyed and built by Hungarians, Turks, Venetians, French and Austrians. Numbers are the best evidence of its impressive size, as it occupies an area of as much as 123,143 m2, is 470 meters long and 110 meters wide. The defensive walls that surround it from all sides in a length of almost 2 kilometers are in some places up to 20 meters high.
